1. How and when did you meet?
Various versions still exist about the beginning pieces of our journey to “Dsquared”, but all in all, it’s a story that we will never forget. Unbeknownst to us, we both began working for PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) in different offices after graduating from college in 2005. Our paths crossed while attending orientation training in Dallas, TX back in 2005. Upon first observation, I saw that Damon was a “ladies man” which was an immediate turn off (ask Damon’s opinion and he wouldn’t agree this fact to be true, but it is ☺). We would later attend several trainings together, but it was not until our encounter in Atlanta, GA in April 2006, that a friendship and love connection would spark to last for ages. I actually was the first one to interact with Damon, despite how I felt about him upon my first impression. After the training, we decided to keep in touch and as they say...the rest is history!
We continued to communicate remotely (as I was living in Harrisburg, PA and he was in the DC area) until it became unbearable and we had to interact more in person. Days and nights of traveling up and down Highway I-83 ensued so that we could be together, which confirmed things were pretty serious. After several months, (yeah, sometime definitely passed before making it official) - on May 18, 2007, we became the couple now known as Dsquared!! Eight years of immense emotion, success, and overcoming challenges followed, but it was the favor of God on us that kept us together.
2. What was your most romantic or fun date?
Damon: TOO many to choose from; if I had to pick – Bahamas
DeAndra: Definitely agree with Damon that there are way too many to choose from, but if I had to pick, for me it was a concert we went to for my birthday I believe. Chrisette Michelle, Musiq Soulchild, and Anthony Hamilton performed and we were first row! It felt so intimate and I felt like they were singing right to me; a memory I will never ever, ever forget. Damon is phenomenal when it comes to surprises though. He never ceases to amaze me.
3. Briefly describe the proposal.
Okay, let’s set the stage: In July 2015, we head to Mexico for a week with our extended family for their birthday and anniversary celebrations (shout out to LaTresse, Leon, Kelsey, Ma, Lamar, & Dave!). Three days of pure bliss in Mexico go by, before our lives would change forever. Friday, July 31, 2015, was filled with fun and activities at the Barceló Maya resort in Playa del Carmen. That day we got into a small disagreement about getting married and when that would happen – isn’t that ironic?! Later in the evening, we all planned to go to dinner and one of the nightly shows at the resort. Damon being Mr. Creative and the thoughtful man he is, had already contacted the hotel to set the proposal up! At the end of each show, the cast always invite guests up to take pictures with them. Damon insisted that we go up and take pictures. Being the diva that I am, I must say that I was ready and willing ☺. So I’m posing beside a dancer waiting for my picture to be taken and in my peripheral I see Damon grabbing the microphone from the host. I couldn’t gather my thoughts quick enough to figure out what was going on. He begins talking to me and at first I have to admit I didn’t even know what he was saying because I was still trying to figure out what he was doing! So fog starts to develop on the stage and one of the band members begins to sing “Just the way you are” by Bruno Mars. Damon then gets down on one knee and asked me to marry him! Everyone was in on the surprise including family and friends who couldn’t join us. He also had had the ring since May!! It was so breathtaking and beautiful; a day that I wish I could re-live over and over.
